5/29/09 - POSTER CONTEST WINNER ANNOUNCED

Monmouth County Sheriff Kim Guadagno, County Clerk M. Claire French and County Surrogate Rosemarie Peters were proud to announce the winner of the "My County" Poster Contest on Friday, May 29. All three Constitutional Officers honored fourth grade student Katrina Gutierrez for her poster called, "Monmouth County, A Place You Will Love To Call Home," at the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Neptune City. "I wanted my poster to show the different places in Monmouth County and why it is such a special place to live," said Katrina.

Since the majority of fourth grade students study the state of New Jersey as part of their social studies curriculum, Sheriff Kim Guadagno along with County Clerk M. Claire French and County Surrogate Rosemarie Peters invited students to enter the poster contest. All school principals in Monmouth County were asked to get each fourth grade student involved by creating his or her own poster that relates to Monmouth County. "The Sheriff's Office received more than two hundred posters, and I commend all the students who participated," said Sheriff Guadagno. "I believe a project like this helps students learn more about the great county we all live in."

As the top winner, Katrina Gutierrez was presented with a certificate and a flag.
The "My County" Poster Contest is held in counties throughout New Jersey.
